Hi everyone, this is my first post.
Tomorrow i have to shoot a hairdresser while he is cutting a models hair, i only have 1, 430EXII and a shoot through umbrella. will be in a relativity small space. any tips would be great!
Any way here are 3 portraits ive recently shot, 2 are self portraits, one is a lady who needed a portrait done for her website. I'm still trying to get my head around lighting. C&C is welcome as i need to learn.

Welcome to BP - maybe tell a little bit about yourself so the other members get to know you
but quickly IMHO # 1 you need some catch lights in his eyes and more light on his Rt
#2 is too soft and looking up nostrills not a good look plus put the head on some shoulders
#3 a little flat, some more contrast and sharper focus
Tm If there is light thru a window use that and shoot from a slightly higher above- use flash to fill

For shooting the hair dresser and model in a small space you could perhaps try using your flash on camera and bouncing it off a wall to one side or even behind you. That will save you working around a light stand.
If there is a large wall mirror watch out for reflections!!!

Welcome to the forum.

No1 - Like the idea here and the mood is great but for me lacks some contrast and looks a bit soft. There are many different ways to do b&W conversions so maybe re-visit and try to make it look a bit 'punchier'. Disagree with Flame70 on the eye catch-lights though, imo the dark eyes add to mood here.

No2 - Agree with Flame70 on the nostrils here! Self portraits can be tricky so keep at it.

No3 - Again agree with Flame70 that this one looks flat. I actually like the pose and you've captured a great smile - just needs more contrast.

Look forward to seeing more from you in the future.
